If we wish for all-around refinement and advancement of human affairs, a thorough knowledge of society is of vital need and that task has been efficiently executed by sociology.
Implementation of Social Policies:
Society is highly complex and infested with many intricacies. If there is no understanding of sociology, it would be almost impossible for a man to understand social complexities. The will to reform society may be properly executed only when the mechanism of society is thoroughly understood. It is only with the help of the knowledge of society that the policies meant for social betterment may be properly framed.
The contribution of sociology to the matter of social reform is highly commendable. The eradication of social problems has been instrumental in the making of law-abiding citizens. It has induced mankind to contribute towards the welfare of society. “So far as our country India is concerned, there is a strongly felt need for sociological knowledge on account of incessantly changing social norms coming under the influence of western culture. A very pious and religious institution of marriage is shattering its value.
In a very vast majority of cases, people are not realizing their social responsibilities. The women are coming out of their homes, breaking their age confinement within their household boundaries, and succeeding in every walk of life similar to their male counterparts. India is a land of different religions and languages. The people living in a particular region consider themselves superior to the people living in the other region.
The causes behind these changes can only be ascertained through an understanding of sociology. Thus, to have a proper understanding of changing notions of the members of society, sometimes for advancement and sometimes for degradation, the sociological study of society is imperative and of significant value.
